I started my podcasting in December 2019 and began to publish them in January 2020. To date, I have four channels- Simply Project, Adib Business Coach and Putrajaya Photowalk. I explored many topics of interest- project management, business coaching, current affairs and my hobbies like reading, cycling, photography and sketching. At the same time, I am also learning from the gurus and the work of others. Not only did I learn how they do podcasting, but I also learn a lot from their contents-everything under the sun.
With TVs and social media, I thought radios are fading away. The recent COVID-19 boosted the popularity of radios. And nowadays, the podcast is also getting more popular in its own way. Almost all big radio stations have podcasts but only a few radio stations in my country Malaysia have podcast services. My favourites are podcasts from BBC. By the way, I could listen to almost all world radio stations via my cable internet connection at home.
As a beginner, I am using cheap microphones like the above I bought for less than RM100 from Lazada. From my experience, cheap mic and speakers are not good. In the last two years, I spent about RM1000 upgrading my devices. All that investment was paid in full when I got paid to do a podcast by National Art Gallery where I was invited to talk for one hour on how artists can turn their passion into a business. This event really boosted my confidence to do more podcasting where I share my project management knowledge in my Facebook group-Simply Project. It is a part of my knowledge management. Last year, I wrote fifty stories related to project management and I plan to make them into a book next year.
Prior to the onslaught of Covid-19 in March 2020, I shun away and even refused to have meetings online. But when I was appointed to be a business coach for young artists to become entrepreneurs in April 2020, I have to go online. My three months of experience in podcasting helped me a lot in my business coaching online. By the end of the year 2021, I have done 26 times of 3-hour coaching sessions. With the current relaxation of the Movement Control Order, we are now allowed to do business coaching in the normal classroom.
After two years of experience meeting and coaching online, I now get used to it. I have subscribed to a Zoom account and use it even to talk to my children and grand children as they live a few hundred kilometres away. Such is the new normal affected by Covid-19. My son works for a London based company from his home in Malaysia-some 12,000 km away and 8+ time zones.
