I am not a watching TV regularly for the last twenty of my life. Thank God, I didn’t like watching TV when I was fifty years old. I was too busy with my business work and family matters. However, I never miss the World Cup Games.
Life is a personal project. We make choices every day about what we want to do. Our daily life will be summed at the end when we die. We know our birthday but don’t know what day we shall die. Therefore we must have a weekly plan so that we can monitor and control our activities to achieve our purpose in our lives. The weeks become months; months become years and years will become our lives. The last two and the half years of pandemic COVID-19 have taught us many lessons on how to make full use of our time. Time is just like the river water. You cannot touch it twice. When it is gone, it is gone.
From a study done, for an average person’s lifetime, he spends 20 years sleeping, 10 years watching TV and 2 years reading. Just imagine the impact on a person’s life if he were only to cut his watching TV to 5 years and add those years watching stupid box to reading books? I am not surprised he may become a subject matter expert or a professor!
Life is a project and the time we have is a very precious resource for our project. It is not renewable and cannot be bought. Alas, many a time we waste the time available to us get wasted. By the way, our life is not like construction project time where we can request for the contract period to be extended. Not Extension Of Time(EOT) was ever given.
Looking back over the last 50 years of my adult life, I confessed that I have wasted a lot of my time and missed a lot of opportunities. When we are in the fast lane we forget about time. We assume the time will always be available for us when we want it. Not anymore when I am now almost 70 years old. Now, with the wisdom of hindsight, I learned to put the right activities at the right level of priority. To the younger men and women out there, identify the various phases of your life, plan and execute the activities for each phase and try your best to achieve the desired deliverables. Just plan for 5 years ahead so that you know your priority and create a sense of urgency but never forget that each 5-year program is aligned to your long-term goals in your life.
