Here is my most treasured mug in the world. It was a birthday gift from my three boys when they roamed The Hamleys(toy shop) and my wife and I were walking the street of London 25 years ago. Two of my boys have left the house and have their own families. Now I only have one son living with me and this mug to remember the good old days…

Such is life. Now, I am a grandfather with seven grand children.

The real mug shot of my three sons was taken 25 years ago

When I was younger living in Malaysia in the ’60s & ‘70s, I only knew about glasses and cups. During my student days in Sheffield, England(1973–76) I only used mugs for my drinks. Back home in the ‘70s, my mother will only serve drinks in proper glasses and cups with saucers. To her, the mug is not an appropriate container for drinks and no plastic cups! In the traditional corporate Malaysia, I only drink from cup and saucer as the CEO of a public listed company. Old habits die hard.

I observed that more and more people are drinking from mugs at their homes and in their offices. The present day CEOs are more casual. They drink from the mug while walking! I came from the old school where my mother taught me not eat or drink while standing and walking. Nowadays, we have takeaways where the executives eat and drink when they walk or drive to their offices or meetings.

Mug is a good object for gifts or anniversary celebrations. Artists are using mugs as creative products with great designed patterns and colours. Mugs last longer and it can be used daily or as a souvenier.A few in my class for artist-entrepreneurs are involved in selling decorative mugs. Adding art to the plain mugs can increase its value many folds.
